Natural cold and flu ‘pick me up’ drink

Are you coming down with that flu bug that seems to be always going round this time of year?.. Skip the pharmacy and instead try this awesome, natural hot drink for that instant spicy ‘hit’ of warm soothing relief.
You, or your Florence Nightingale, will need;
  • 1 Tbsp of natural honey - One of the better known health benefits of honey is that it is able to help treat sore throats. Thanks to its antimicrobial properties, honey not only soothes throats but can also kill certain bacteria that causes the infection.
  • 1 Tbsp of raw lemon juice - Being rich in Vitamin C, it is essential for maintaining a fully functional immune system and although acidic to taste, lemons are one of the most alkaline of foods and help to push our bodies to the required pH alkaline state of around 7.4
  • 1/4 tsp of ground ginger - Ginger root can be ground, and the extract mixed with water, honey and lemon for a healing tea to relieve cold and flu symptoms. Also perfect to add a little spice to this sweet beverage to stimulate blood circulation and warm cold hands and feet.
  • 1/4 tsp of Camu powder – 15% vitamin C by weight, Camu has more than any other food. It strengthens the immune system, is a natural antioxidant and is anti viral.
  • Dash of cayenne pepper to taste - Cayenne pepper aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus. Once mucus begins to leave the body, generally relief from flu symptoms follows. Cayenne has the ability to ease stomach upset, ulcers, sore throats, spasmodic and irritating coughs, and diarrhea. Is also good for headaches and helps to stimulate the production of saliva.

Mix all ingredients together with hot water into a mug, (boil it first and let it cool before you add the ingredients to save damaging the integrity of many of the nutrients) add a little cold so as not to scald, stir well and drink while hot. Repeat as often as you like. And don't forget to stay well hydrated with plenty of water!

A revolution in the making?

Here is a genuine guy who has used his celebrity status as one of the UK’s best known chefs to good effect. I challenge anyone to watch this inspiring speech by Jamie Oliver without a lump in their throat! This guy is so passionate about his cause and it’s all backed up by verifiable fact and simple common sense. It should be compulsory watching for every parent, teacher, carer, politician and food industry boss!

This video was filmed in 2010 and we have to ask ourselves; what’s being done, who’s doing it and are we getting anywhere? Well, the school I am with now, The Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York has over 25,000 graduates from more than 75 countries and we believe that we really are on the verge of a revolution, like Jamie hopes for. Education is changing people’s minds and consumers are demanding better quality, real food without all the poisonous preservatives, the addictively excessive amounts of sugar and salt and the so-called low fat options.
In this case Google really is your friend! Until fairly recently the sources of the information we received has been limited to the government policies and media advertising, both heavily funded by the food industry, which has one agenda only - profit. Now we have the world’s information at our fingertips and although I’m not in any way saying that everything you read on line is true, we now at least have differing opinions, so we too can form our own opinions based on intelligent discussion and actually start to think for ourselves. And that is what we absolutely MUST do – start thinking for ourselves!

My new business cards!

They've just arrived and I'm thrilled with them! They are the standard Matte cards from Moo.com The quality is fantastic - they are a very heavyweight card with a smooth matte finish - definitely a cut above your average business card. My lovely and talented wife designed them for me! (thanks honey - you did a great job, proud of you!). But what is so fabulous about Moo is that you can use one side of your cards to have a variety of designs - I took advantage of this by having 12 different inspirational quotes. (I believe you can have up to 50 different designs!) On the other side of course I had my business contact details. They come in small business card holder boxes, with thoughtful tabs of 'mine' and 'yours' - so when you trade you won't get your cards muddled up. Really the attention to detail is excellent.

I would highly recommend these cards to anyone. Please go and check them out if you're thinking of some new business cards - you won't be sorry! Plus you can get 15% off your first pack of 50 Business cards by entering the code G2MSCG at checkout! And if you need a little help with the design work then I know a great gal.....;-)

(If you're thinking of trying Moo out for the first time then if you follow this link then I will get a little referral bonus!)

7-day 'Anytime' Detox

I often ask myself why the obsession with New Year detox’s? Come January everywhere you look there seems to be a new ‘sure fire’ way to lose the holiday pounds, cleanse the body and tone the muscles. But using the adage that 'how you treat your body between December and January is not as important as how you treat it between January and December', I like to drop in the odd detox anytime of year – kind of discretely and without all the fuss and interest from friends and family.

The benefits of any detox are two fold;
  1. The physical benefit of replacing the bad foods with the good gives your body a chance to catch up on preventative maintenance without fighting whatever you normally feed it with.
  2. The psychological benefit can be just as effective and potentially much longer lasting. During the detox you’ll find that you have to think smart and look for alternative recipes. This change in mindset will often go on long after the detox is over.
Actually what you give up is potentially less important than the fact that you’re giving something up at all. It's about thinking outside the box and challenging yourself to give up something you normally eat. For example you may decide to give up dairy for a week; so for the meal that normally has cheese in it you learn to modify the recipe. You may find you like it better than the original and now there's less cheese in your diet - no bad thing right?!

The clue to making it work without too much sacrifice is not to give up too many things, but make them count! We want to feel like it is somewhat hard work but we don’t want to find ourselves wishing the days away…

Some things you may decide to cut out are; processed foods, preservatives, alcohol, meat, dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, or refined sugar. But don’t feel like you have to give up all of them together. Every little helps and we’re looking for progress not perfection. Replace with more fruit and as much veggies as you can. Experiment with new options you’ve never tried and enjoy…
